Description
Candid® Cream is manufactured by Glenmark Gracewell Division. It is a topical antimycotic medication used to treat mild fungal and yeast skin infections caused by pathogenic dermatophytes including Candida albicans and Malassezia furfur.
Candid® Cream comprises Clotrimazole as an active ingredient. Clotrimazole is an azole derivative with a broad spectrum of antimycotic activity against candidal and dermatophytic infections. This antifungal agent can be fungicidal or fungistatic depending on concentration.
Indications:
- athlete’s foot;
- oral thrush;
- genital candidiasis (vaginal or penile thrush);
- nail fungus (tinea unguium);
- jock itch;
- dermatomycosis furfuracea (tinea versicolor, pityriasis versicolor or tinea flava);
- diaper and sweat rash;
- onychomycosis (ringworm of the nail).
MOA (mechanism of action):
Clotrimazole is an antifungal agent effective against most strains of Epidermophyton, Trichophyton, Microsporum, and Candida. It is also active against many gram-positive bacteria. Clotrimazole kills infection-causing fungal cells by inhibiting the synthesis of ergosterol, the main component of fungal cell membrane. With the lack of ergosterol, the membrane of fungal cells becomes more permeate, which results in the fungal cells dying.
