Description
BD Ultra-Fine® needle insulin syringe is manufactured by Becton Dickinson. It is used to inject insulin, a hormone that helps human body use glucose (sugar) for energy, into subcutaneous tissues (to the layer of fat right under the skin and above the muscles). BD Ultra-Fine® needle insulin syringe consists of a needle with a protective cap on it, a barrel that comes in 4 different sizes, and a plunger. The needle is only 6 mm in length and 0,25 mm (31 gauge) in width, which makes injections easy to perform and decreases the chances of muscles being injected, therefore dramatically reduces the risk of pain and unexplained hypoglycemia.
This syringe is used among people suffering from diabetes mellitus of type 1 (insulin-dependent) and type 2 (insulin-independent).
How to use BD Ultra-Fine® needle insulin syringe:
1. Wash your hands with soap.
2. Choose the area to be injected. Make sure the skin there is not broken or inflamed.
3. Sanitize the injection site with an alcohol cotton wool. Let it dry.
4. Remove the plastic cap from the insulin bottle.
5. Carefully roll the bottle between your hands 2-3 times to mix the solution (do not shake).
6. Wipe off the rubber part on the top of the insulin bottle with alcohol cotton wool.
7. Remove the plastic cap from the needle of the syringe and insert the needle into the rubber stopper of the insulin bottle. Push the plunger down making sure the air from the syringe gets inside of the bottle.
8. Turn the bottle with the syringe inserted upside-down. Make sure the insulin covers the needle.
9. Pull the plunger back to the required number of units (measure from the top of the plunger).
10. Remove the needle from the insulin bottle.
11. Check the syringe for air bubbles. To remove them, tap the syringe so the air bubbles rise to the top and push up on the plunger so the air leaves the syringe. Recheck the dose and add more insulin to the syringe if necessary.
12. Carefully replace the cap on the needle.
13. Place the syringe between your thumb and first finger. Let the syringe lean on your second finger.
14. With your free hand, grasp the skin at the injection site.
15. Hold the syringe tightly and carefully insert the needle into the skin. Once the needle is all the way in, push the plunger down to inject the medicine.
16. After you have injected the solution, remove the needle at the same angle you put it in. Gently wipe the area with the gauze pad.
17. Dispose of syringe safely. Wash your hands.
