Description
FML® Liquifilm suspension is manufactured by Allergan. The active ingredient of FML® Liquifilm eye drops is Fluorometholone, an ophthalmic synthetic fluorinated corticosteroid.
FML® Liquifilm is preferred for long-term treatment comparing to other corticosteroids.
Indications: corticosteroid-responsive eye disorders (e.g., allergic conjunctivitis, ocular burns or trauma due to corneal injury resulting from chemical, thermal or penetration trauma, giant papillary conjunctivitis (GPC), keratitis, postoperative ocular inflammation, vernal keratoconjunctivitis, and chronic anterior uveitis).
MOA (mechanism of action):
Fluorometholone suppresses inflammation and immune reactions. Its anti-inflammatory action is thought to induce lipocortins (phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins), which regulate the biosynthesis of mediators of inflammation such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes by inhibiting the release of the arachidonic acid.
Dosage
For adults and children over 2 years: 1 drop into the conjunctival sac 2-4 times daily.
During the initial 24 to 48 hours, the dosing frequency may be increased if necessary.
Do not discontinue therapy prematurely.
If signs and symptoms fail to improve after 2 days, consult your doctor immediately.
Instill doses at regular intervals.
Administer ophthalmic solutions or suspensions prior to applying eye ointments. Allow 5-10 minutes between different ocular product applications.
Precautions
FML® Liquifilm eye drops are not intended for use in children under 2 years of age.
FML® Liquifilm suspension is for topical ophthalmic use only, not for injection.
Wash your hands before and after using the eye drops.
FML® Liquifilm suspension is associated with allergic reactions, even following a single dose. Discontinue using FML® Liquifilm immediately and contact your physician at the first sign of a rash or allergic reaction.
Avoid contaminating the applicator tip with eye, fingers or another source.
Patients with dry eye disease typically should not wear contact lenses.
Remove contact lenses before using FML® Liquifilm eye drops.
Lenses may be reinserted 15 minutes following administration of FML® Liquifilm eye drops.
